Im pretty much nappied out for at least one weekend – Ive got a couple on the ‘to-do’ list but apart from those lil numbers there will be no bamboo sewn! Im going to make a couple of carriers (well, make a start anyway) instead ;).
I also need a little advice. I have this awesome lounge that is in tune with my true retro style – we scored it at a secondhand shop in Charleville some time ago for $70. So I figure I can throw a little bit of money at it in the form of awesome fabric to really make it rock. I LOVE the shape and comfort of it, it really is kitsch but I have to be careful not to overdo it. Our backroom is pretty outlandish as it is….
Anyway, I love the current print – I like the busy-ness of it but think that I wouldn’t mind paring it back just a little. The colour happens to be perfectly in keeping with the décor of the room too but the fabric must be eons old – its threadbare and tears with the pressure of a glance of your eye.
I keep moving between a couple of options. Plain jane – maybe some lush cord or velour kind of fabric with a very subtle jacquard, stripe or nothing at all in a really poppin’ colour. This is the ‘safe’ option IMO and although I hate that I even thought of it (HAHAHAHAHA) I really do think that it is the smartest option. I can then accessorise with awesome Echino/Dewberry/Lara Cameron or the like cushions and let the other stuff in the room speak.
Then there is the idiot part of me that has a vision and it’s the true gamble as to whether it will work out. The reason why I am not quite so afraid of this option is because the lounge is currently covered in something pretty damn crazy right now and it really sits in keeping with the room very well (well, in my opinion :P). If this option was the one that I was to go for then the hunt begins. Ikea had this awesome canvas that I pimped my granny trolley with but I think that it is discontinued. It is the only fabric that I think might work however I have considered using a Valori Wells Sole print too… But seriously – do I ‘do’ floral? NO.
Far out brussels sprout.
There is the rocking part of me that just wants to use denim. Love denim. Hardwearing. Compliments everything and is casual, which is what our backroom is.... hmmmmmm...
So, what do you reckon?

Heh heh Mel.... I have 2 chairs sitting here around the same vintage that need recovering. One in Miss L's room and one in the garage that will be recovered and placed in the nursery o dreams lol. Cant wait to see what you do! I love the fabric that is on it tbh.... If you want something similar go an amy butler ;) If you want to spend some serious $ Funky Fabrix on Blackwood Street at Mitchelton had some GORGEOUS retro fabrics- hard wearing stuff too :)
DH's Aunty and Uncle have similar chairs recovered in vinyl as they have them out on their deck. Red and Purple where the colours they used! Comfy as..... Their place is full of retro :)
I would go for the plain lush cord .... Hard wearing etc plus if you make scatter cushions in the really funky fabrics you can swap & change as you mood takes you !
But thats the way I always look at it LOL ! Probably boring for most ;)
I vote denim with some rockin cushions! You could even do up a couple of different style of cushions and change them according to your mood. Denim goes with everything!
that lounge deserves something funky, don't go plain. Having said that I have an single chair in the same style that is plain, I'll have to recover it now or I'll sound like a hypocrite!
Velour all the way here
LUSH :D
